The Medical Laboratory Technologist makes up part of the diagnostic health care team. They are responsible for processing body fluids for chemical, serological, and biological analysis.

Five distinct departments comprise the clinical laboratory. They are the Blood Bank, the Hematology Department, the Serology Department, the Chemistry Department, and the Microbiology Department. Many MLT's also participate in phlebotomy drawing blood specimens.
