How accurate is eyewitness testimony? Do dreams convey important information or are they mental garbage? Are the brain and the mind different concepts? Is intelligence a gift bestowed at birth or the result of a stimulating environment? These are questions that intrigue psychologists and students who major in Psychology. Psychologists use the scientific method to answer these and other questions related to the brain, sensation and perception, learning, memory, thinking, emotions, motivation, consciousness, personality, psychological disorders, and the social and cultural world from conception to death.
Students with a baccalaureate degree in Psychology may find careers in related fields, including human resources and public relations. Students pursuing graduate training in Psychology find an extensive list of career opportunities including education research at colleges and universities, therapy, social psychology, clinical psychology, behavioral medicine and health psychology, industrial organizational psychology, human factors engineering, community psychology, and forensic psychology. An excellent source of information about the field of Psychology is the website of the American Psychological Association.
