AMATYC Practice

The Math Club (Delta Mu Epsilon) endeavors to instill mathematical thinking and recreation in students at all levels and to link to the community through service.  The club serves by sponsoring the Math Olympics, a competition for local high school students and by sponsoring a book sale at the DECA Holiday Bazaar.  Students are trained for and challenged by the National AMATYC exams given three times during the year and a statewide community college mathematics competition held in March.  The club also volunteers for various projects throughout the four county district.

IRCC President Dr. Edwin Massey (far left) recognized Math club members (from right to left) Art Ianuzzi, Steve Clanton,  Rachel Castle and Math Club sponsor Mike Schramm at the January Board of Trustees Meeting for their exemplary performance on the October (2005) AMATYC Exam.  Rachel had the highest score in Florida, Steve had the second highest, and Arthur had the fourth highest score in the state.  As one might speculate, that combination of scores was high enough to win first place as a team in the state also.

The IRCC math team also took first place in the Math Olympics Competition at the University of North Florida in 2006.
