E-Commerce Lab Policies and Procedures Manual 2007

Lab Scope

 The E‑Commerce Lab is designed primarily to serve the Business and Information Technology Division. Any student registered in a class in this division has priority on the lab equipment.  Any posted signs will be followed and are the responsibility of the lab assistants and faculty to enforce. Any violation of lab policy by students may cause termination of lab privileges. 

E‑Commerce Lab Users

 

Lab access and use is limited to the following individuals in order of priority.

1‑  Business and Information Technology Division faculty and staff.

2‑  Students registered in a class offered by the Business and Technology division.

3‑  Any student authorized by the Division faculty or staff.

4‑  Lab assistant computer is for the exclusive use of faculty and lab assistants.

Faculty or lab assistants may remove any disruptive student for further discipline. If student refuses to leave, Security must be called and student will be reported to the Student Affairs Office.  All individuals are required to comply with all posted rules and regulations including no eating, drinking, smoking, or violations of behavior or dress code.  Any Faculty member has expressed and implied authority over any student. The Lab Supervisor has the ultimate responsibility and control over lab operations.

 Lab Reservations

Any faculty member wishing to reserve the lab as a tutorial classroom needs to fill out a reservation form at least three days prior to the reserved date. Forms are located in the lab and will be cleared through the Lab Supervisor for approval. Lab Supervisor will post it in the appropriate place in the lab.  When an instructor is using the lab, regular lab students will be directed to another location.

 

Software 

Any Faculty wishing to add software to the network system must use the following procedures:

1‑  No faculty is authorized to install, add, or delete any software from the network.

2‑   Faculty members will fill out appropriate forms and give software to Lab Supervisor.

3‑   Lab Supervisor will contact Institutional Technology who will take full responsibility for installation.

4‑   Faculty member should have back up of software in case of error or lost diskette.

 

Restrictions

 

     The following actions by users or lab assistants are strictly forbidden:

1‑  Using the lab for profit or other non‑academic reasons.

2‑   Unauthorized removal (theft) or alteration of any Lab hardware, software, or other resource. This includes the act of copying any proprietary files from Lab machines to private diskettes.

3‑  Use or creation of any software which contains a virus. A Lab Assistant must scan any bootable diskette for viruses before use in a Lab machine. (**See the Anti‑Virus policy)

4‑ Overnight storage of data or personal items in the Lab.

5‑ Posting of any unauthorized notices or advertisements.

 

Anti Virus Policy

Lab equipment must be routinely checked for computer viruses. IRCC assumes no responsibility (explicit or implied) regarding the safety of user property. Any user who transfers software to or from Lab Equipment without prior authorization will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

 Lab Assistant Responsibilities  

Typical tasks include but are not limited to:

1-     Formatting and duplicating diskette.

2-     Administering tests for instructors.

3-     Routine cleaning of equipment, tables, and boards.

4-     Tutoring of students.

Responsibilities

1-     Maintain professional attitude and attire while on the clock.

2-     Ensure materials provided by instructors are maintained and protected from misuse by students.

3-     Ensure lab is clean and presentable.

4-     Ensure orderly operation of complete lab.

5-     Ensure students act within proper college rules and regulations.

6-     Be familiar with start‑up techniques and repair procedures.

7-     Be familiar with lab materials for tutoring.

8-     Clean up lab at end of day.

9-     Develop and maintain familiarity with basic software and hardware.

10- Keep printer full of paper and toner.

11- Keep lab log is sheet up to date and require every student to sign‑in

 LAB ATTIRE AND ATTITUDE

Lab assistants must maintain a professional attitude and manners. Good grooming and dress is a must. The standard lab assistant attire will be considered " BUSINESS CASUAL. " That is interpreted to be the following:

1-     Slacks or dress

2-     Shoes or sneakers

3-     No shorts or t‑shirts

4-     Badge to identify lab assistant

5-     Lab jacket or uniform, if provided

 

Emergency Procedures

In case of an emergency during regular hours when the switchboard is operating, DIAL 77 for assistance. On weekends, DIAL 911. ANY INCIDENTS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE, DR. MOORE, AND TO THE DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY MR. FRANK WATKINS.

Computer Repair Request Procedure

 

 1‑ Lab Assistant or faculty will obtain a Request Form in the binder in the lab. Fill out both the top and bottom of the form. Tape top half to broken equipment and slide the bottom half under Lab Supervisor's office door.

2‑ Lab Assistant will e-mail Helpdesk and carbon copy the Lab Supervisor specifying the problem.

 3‑ Institutional Technology will e‑mail Supervisor as to the disposition of problem.

 4‑ Supervisor will staple bottom half of original form to printed e‑mail correspondence, date and place in binder for audit trail.

 5‑ It is imperative that the Lab Assistant has form signed by Technology personnel after problem has been completely fixed.
